…the radical positivist line that science is the basis of knowledge; that it is empirical; and that non-empirical enterprises are either logic or nonsense.
Ref.: Paul Feyerabend.
– What about quantum physics etc.*?
– All of it is still empirical; we still need to build the machines and we still need to measure (gravitational waves… par example)
– I can’t see the counter argument. It is still empirically based science, i.e (still) the basis of knowledge. Not spirits, ghosts or things that can’t be empirically proven/measured repeatedly.
A Hubble Space Telescope image of the giant galaxy M87 shows a 3,000-light-year-long jet of plasma blasting from the galaxy's 6.5-billion-solar-mass central black hole. The blowtorch-like jet seems to cause stars to erupt along its trajectory.
*Disclaimer. I do not make the claim that I can or could give a full or accurate account of P. Feyerabend’s thoughts or on his work. And most definitely not on this horrid subject. This is my very personal interpretation of “Positivism” in the philosophical tradition/movement know as: Positivism.
